Lemo stone graves



Description
At Lemo, there is a cemetery on a hill made of stone. Was named Lemo hill, because the rounded shape resembles a lemon fruit (citrus). In this rock there are about 75 graves holes, each hole is a grave one family. From the outside, which looks just the door-hole course, which was covered with wooden boards. The location of these holes is quite high, reaching tens of meters. The corpse is inserted into the hole with a ladder or towed by a rope. Hole size is big enough, about three meters by five meters. To make this hole requires considerable cost, around Rp. 30 million rupiah, because the hole made by chiseling the rock manually. Work to make this hole usually takes six months to one year.

On the cliff wall lined with many tau-tau (a statue of the deceased), account for about 40 fruit. The existence of tau-tau showed that this cemetery is the tomb of the rich, because to make a tau-tau to fulfill various requirements, among others, slaughtering as many as 24 head of buffalo.

Feature
This is a grave at Lemo's second oldest cemetery in the Homeland, as for the oldest graves are in Songgi Patalo. Grave stones at Lemo made at about the 16th century.

Location
Located in the northern city of Makale, go to the east of the highway which connects the city of Makale and Rantepao.

Access
Lemo can be reached by driving from the city or town Makale Rantepao, Tana Toraja, the Capital District.

Accommodation and Facilities
In some locations there are several stalls selling craft items typical Toraja.
